Recent legislation from the Colorado General Assembly has imposed a wave of "one-size-fits-all" land use regulations on municipalities across the state. Left unchecked, these mandates threaten Cherry Hills Village's ability to preserve its low-density character of single-family homes. Your City Council believes most – if not all – of these regulations represent an unconstitutional and improper pre-emption of zoning authority that has always belonged to local communities.
That is why on August 4, 2026, your City Council, who are elected to represent all geographic areas of the city, voted unanimously to place a Charter amendment on the November 3, 2026 ballot. If it passes, this will make clear that decisions about land use in Cherry Hills Village rest with our locally elected leaders and the residents who elect them, not with mandates handed down from the State Capitol.
